Minnesota Comic Book Association presents MNCBA SpringCon 2025 7 June
Old fans will have their love reignited, while also making a whole new generation of readers fall in love with the SilverHawks for the first time. Balancing the expectations of long-time fans while trying to attract new readers is always a challenge. That said, as I mentioned earlier, the show left behind a wealth of untapped potential in its characters and lore, which gives us plenty of room to explore. I was a big fan of the SilverHawks cartoon as a kid, I had the toys, I read the Marvel series. I loved the idea of cyborg space cops out to take down a galactic mobster. You take those two things and bring them together and it’s like catnip for me.
It features almost every major player from the IDW series coming together in one incredible (and long-running) storyline. This is pure spectacle, but it is definitely a proper high point for the series. While this would have been a worthy conclusion, the series has continued to a recent ending before IDW rebooted the fan-favorite Turtles. City at War plunges New York City into chaos as multiple factions from across the Turtles’ history battle for dominance among the streets. As always, the Turtles are at the heart of this conflict, attempting to stop their foes and save innocent lives.
COMMUNITY EXHIBITORS
The new MNCBA’s first SpringCon held on April 29th, 2023, at the Bloomington Armory, was a tremendous success. The show featured the return of fan-favorite panels and hourly prize drawings, brought in over 600 attendees, collected 300 pounds of food donated to the ISD191 Food Pantry, and generated a great, collaborative, and positive atmosphere. In March, Marvel Comics’ New Champions will go up against an older incarnation of the team for the right to maintain their iconic moniker.
There was a lot of potential with the set up and characters that hadn’t been explored in the show which makes the project ripe for exploration and expansion – that room to explore and build on existing lore was too enticing to pass up. Nick’s most visible contribution to the MCBA was to move the twice-per-year convention to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, where it eventually became a Twin Cities staple. We don’t want this to be a one-man-band situation because it’s been demonstrated too often what happens if something happens to the one person who does everything. We’re shooting for redundancy, which not only gives us back-ups, but different inputs and more options, which is really fantastic.
This arc also features Splinter and his other sons taking over the Foot Clan and leading the group in a new direction. Over the more than four decades that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has dominated pop culture, the series has introduced many fan-favorite characters beyond just the Heroes in a Half Shell. Like the Turtles, the vast majority of these MidwestComicbookFans.com characters have been reimagined repeatedly with different iterations of the franchise, and the members of the Mighty Mutanimals are no different. And, for fans of that particular team, IDW’s “…And Out Came the Reptiles” put the most memorable of them all right in the spotlight where he belongs.
Fantastic Fears #8
His music writing has appeared in The Quietus, MOJO, Electronic Sound, Clash, and loads of other places and he runs the micro-label Modern Aviation, which puts out experimental music on cassette tape. Although SilverHawks only ran for a single season, it still retains a strong cult following. Now Dynamite Entertainment, hot on the heels of their new ThunderCats series, is set to release a brand new SilverHawks comic book written by Old Man Logan and Predator writer Ed Brisson and illustrated by Gargoyles and Firefly artist George Kambadais.
The Ninja Turtles originally all had red headbands, but the first major TMNT adaptation beyond the comics forever changed them with colored masks. Beyond that, I’ve always felt that SilverHawks was mostly overlooked. It lived in the shadows of ThunderCats, which to be fair was arguably the more successful show.
Conventions in midwest USA
We’re going to be focussing primarily on the characters that people already know and love. There will be a few new secondary cast members introduced in the first issue – all members of the original SilverHawks task force that Stargazer and Condor were part of. Embark on a journey through the vast landscape of comic multiverses, from the iconic heroes of Marvel and DC to indie gems waiting to be discovered. Whether you’re a seasoned collector, an aspiring artist, or simply someone who loves to immerse themselves in tales of heroism and adventure, you’ll find your home here. “Given the current state of the creative industries, with the increasing prevalence of generative AI, I believe facilitating a protected space for human artists is more important than ever,” Bateman said.
Brothers Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo and Donatello are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, fighting evil in comics, television, movies and more. “The Armageddon Game” is by far IDW’s biggest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles storyline to date, and it is hard to imagine that any will be surpassing it any time soon. Chasing Phantoms sees the Turtles face off with the Street Phantoms, a dangerous gang on the streets of New York. The arc sees Splinter begin to hide things from his sons as he attempts to do what he thinks is best for the Foot Clan and the city. This leads to some real emotional conflict between Splinter and the Turtles.
